Final Project: Exploration and Presentation of Women Writers

Project Overview

For your final project, you will demonstrate your understanding of women writers by exploring a novel by a woman author that we have not discussed in class. This project will be completed in small groups, allowing you to collaborate and engage deeply with the text and your peers.

Project Components

  1. Group Formation and Novel Selection
    • Form groups of 3-4 students.
    • Each group will select a novel written by a woman author that has not been covered in our course.
    • Submit your novel choice for approval to ensure a diverse range of works and avoid duplicates.
  2. Reading and Analysis
    • Read the selected novel as a group.
    • Analyze the novel, focusing on the following aspects:
      • Author’s Background: Research the author’s life, influences, and other works.
      • Themes and Motifs: Identify and discuss the main themes and motifs of the novel.
      • Character Development: Analyze the development of major characters and their roles in the narrative.
      • Literary Style: Examine the author’s writing style, including narrative techniques, language, and structure.
      • Cultural and Historical Context: Consider the cultural and historical context in which the novel was written and set.
  3. Presentation Preparation
    • Create a 15-20 minute presentation to share your analysis with the class.
    • Your presentation should include:
      • A brief introduction to the author and the novel.
      • Key findings from your analysis.
      • Selected excerpts from the novel that illustrate your points.
      • Visual aids (e.g., slides, posters) to enhance your presentation.
      • An interactive element (e.g., discussion questions, a short activity) to engage your classmates.
  4. Reflective Essay
    • Each group member will write a 3-4 page reflective essay on their experience with the project.
    • The essay should include:
      • Personal reflections on the novel and its impact.
      • Insights gained about the author and the themes of the novel.
      • Reflections on the group collaboration process.
      • Any challenges faced and how they were overcome.
