Poetry or Song Presentation

Value:  100 points

In class, we have read and analyzed both poetry and music written and/or performed by women to determine how short, lyrical texts carry deeper meanings and connections to course themes. Now, it’s your turn to pick.

Mission:

Choose a poem or song lyrics by a female writer that you connect with or feel particularly represents the female experience.  Take some time to reflect on and analyze this poem or song.

Explicate the meaning of your chosen piece and how it relates to the collective female experience and/or other pieces we’ve covered in class.

Organizing the Project:

Your presentation should last approximately 5-7 minutes and include the following elements:

  1. An excerpt of the text for your audience (an audio recording is okay, too)
  2. An explanation of why you chose this particular text
  3. A history/background of the text (when/where/why it was written)
  4. A summary of the text
  5. Your personal analysis/interpretation of deeper meanings
  6. How the text relates to the collective female experience
  7. How the text relates to previous texts we have discussed
