Rubric Reading Questions

Use of Detail

  • 5 points: The response uses precise and relevant details from the text. It includes specific quotes or examples that effectively support the answer.
  • 4 points: The response uses relevant details from the text but may lack precision. It includes some specific quotes or examples that generally support the answer.
  • 3 points: The response uses details from the text but they are not always relevant or specific. It includes few quotes or examples, and they may only partially support the answer.
  • 2 points: The response includes minimal details from the text, and those included are often irrelevant or vague. It includes one or two quotes or examples that do not effectively support the answer.
  • 1 point: The response lacks relevant details from the text. It includes no quotes or examples, or they are entirely unrelated to the question.
  • 0 points: No details from the text are used.

Analysis

  • 5 points: The response demonstrates insightful and original analysis. It thoroughly explains how the details from the text support the answer and makes connections to broader themes or concepts.
  • 4 points: The response demonstrates solid analysis. It explains how the details from the text support the answer but may lack depth or originality.
  • 3 points: The response demonstrates basic analysis. It makes an attempt to explain how the details from the text support the answer but lacks depth and thoroughness.
  • 2 points: The response demonstrates limited analysis. It offers minimal explanation of how the details from the text support the answer.
  • 1 point: The response demonstrates little to no analysis. It fails to explain how the details from the text support the answer.
  • 0 points: No analysis is present.

Thoroughness

  • 5 points: The response is comprehensive, fully addressing all parts of the question. It demonstrates a complete understanding of the text.
  • 4 points: The response is mostly complete, addressing most parts of the question. It demonstrates a good understanding of the text.
  • 3 points: The response is somewhat complete, addressing some parts of the question. It demonstrates a basic understanding of the text.
  • 2 points: The response is incomplete, addressing few parts of the question. It demonstrates a limited understanding of the text.
  • 1 point: The response is very incomplete, addressing only one part of the question. It demonstrates a minimal understanding of the text.
  • 0 points: The response does not address the question.

Grammar and Mechanics

  • 5 points: The response is free from grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It demonstrates a strong command of language and effectively communicates the answer.
  • 4 points: The response has few minor grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It demonstrates a good command of language and communicates the answer clearly.
  • 3 points: The response has some grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It demonstrates a basic command of language and generally communicates the answer.
  • 2 points: The response has several grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It demonstrates a limited command of language and hinders clear communication.
  • 1 point: The response has numerous grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. It demonstrates poor command of language and fails to communicate the answer clearly.
  • 0 points: The response is incoherent due to excessive grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors.
